A multi-national forestry company engages in genetic experimentation to increase logging yield in a remote section of forest. But the experimentation goes disastrously wrong, transforming a disparate group of loggers and environmental activists into the “infected” — ravenous, zombie-like creatures who prey upon the few terrified survivors while they attempt to understand and control the disaster…

Film Review

Severed is set in a logging camp somewhere in Canada, there a logger named Eric (Hrothgar Mathews) has an accident while sawing a tree & cuts his shoulder & quickly turns into a flesh eating zombie. Back in the big city & the boss of the logging company sends his son Tyler (Paul Campbell) to drive out there & see why they have lost all contact with the camp, once there Tyler quickly finds out why. It seems that company scientists developed a chemical called GX-11-34 which would increase the growth of the trees but also has the unwanted side effect of turning anyone who gets it in their blood stream into a flesh eating zombie. The logging camp is quarantined off & the few survivors including Tyler must fight the zombies to stay alive & somehow find a way out of the camp confines without becoming zombie food…This Canadian production was co-written & directed by Carl Bessai & one has to say it's pretty bad, I mean it's not Day of the Dead 2: Cont…

… And by liberal activists, I mean the writer/director and producers! Forget the undead (were they even undead?). The real activists and loggers were on the film crew (as writer/director/producers and camera crew, respectively). The primary thematic element of this film could be summed up in it's opening and closing scenes, and is most certainly more about smearing the ominous evil corporation than ominous zombie entertainment or bringing any new concepts or devices to the genre… And while the ShakyCam{TM} can be employed successfully (see 28 Days/Weeks Later), unfortunately, the loggers on this film's camera crews thought they were still handling chainsaws.Motives aside, there were a few decent qualities of this film (or else I would have rated it below a 3). One saving throw was the zombie acting. The zombies were very consistent, and must have had a decent coach. In fact, the zombie acting was better than almost EVERY other individual character in the film. However, gen…

Compared to the absolute garbage DTV horror films at Blockbuster, this is a masterpiece. But, compared to Hollywood theatrical releases it is mediocre.I'll take mediocre. Not much around as far as good horror, other then Asian films. The good: The acting, the scene work, the script, directing, well to be honest, they are quit good. The bad: Plot holes, and well honestly the zombies. The zombies? Yes. Ridiculous and campy. Night of the living dead was down right creepy. Slow, unfeeling walking dead. These are more like insert infection, my face changes color and I walk like I'm on a tight rope. The many many plot holes: – Loggers, chainsaws everywhere. Guess what, other then dispatching a downed zombie, these awesome weapons are never used. They needed Bruce Campbell. – Infection spreading. Throughout the movie the heroes are doused in blood. But no one gets infected. The only infections are caused by exposure to the red sap, or bites. Ridiculous. – The group are a disorganized cl…
